Can you file Form 8822-B online?

PostalForm supports a narrow Form 8822-B preparation kit for business mailing-address, return-address, employee-plan-return, or business-location changes. The PostalForm workflow does not support responsible-party changes.

Supported use

Use this workflow only when:

  • the entity already has an EIN;
  • the change concerns a supported business mailing address, return address, employee-plan-return address, or business location;
  • an authorized owner, officer, or representative can hand-sign and date the delivered original; and
  • the customer will verify the current destination from the old business-address state and personally submit the final form.

Do not use this PostalForm workflow for a responsible-party change. The current IRS Form 8822-B may cover that purpose, but PostalForm has deliberately excluded the responsible-party branch and its timing requirements from this release.

What PostalForm prepares

The guided workflow collects the supported business identity and address facts and produces an unsigned official-form kit. It does not collect a final signature, choose a final mailing service, or create proof of filing.

After the kit arrives:

  1. Remove and keep the PostalForm cover page.
  2. Review the business name, EIN, change-type boxes, old and new addresses, and any business-location entry.
  3. Have an authorized owner, officer, or representative hand-sign and date the original and add the signer's title.
  4. Verify the current Form 8822-B instructions and destination using the old business-address state.
  5. Personally mail the final form and keep a copy and your own mailing records.

Kit delivery to you is not IRS filing, acceptance, or proof that IRS records changed.

When not to use the workflow

Do not use it when you need to report a responsible-party change, need advice about signer authority, have a foreign or unusual routing situation not covered by the form, or cannot complete the handwritten signature and final submission yourself.

If you already completed and signed the correct current PDF and only need printing and mailing, use mail a completed form online and independently enter the verified current recipient.
