How to mail a TransUnion credit dispute

Open TransUnion's mail-dispute instructions immediately before sending. Confirm the current address, identity-verification requirements, and accepted documents there. Addresses and requirements can change.

The CFPB's sample-letter page provides a free letter you can adapt.

Identify the item exactly as it appears on your TransUnion report. Explain what is inaccurate or incomplete, why you believe it is wrong, and the correction you want. Follow TransUnion's current instructions and include relevant copies of supporting records.

A packet commonly includes:

• your signed dispute letter or TransUnion's current form
• the report or confirmation number, if available
• a marked copy of the relevant TransUnion report section
• copies of relevant supporting evidence
• the identity and address documents TransUnion currently requests

Send copies, not originals. Keep an exact copy of the outgoing packet.

Use the mailing method you choose after reviewing TransUnion's instructions. Certified Mail is optional, but it can create a mailing and delivery record. Save the address used, receipt, tracking history, response, and updated report together.

If the same error also appears on Equifax or Experian, those bureaus require their own separately addressed disputes. Do not send one envelope to multiple bureaus.
