Courier vs USPS for sending a letter: when is a courier worth it?
If you're abroad and need to send paperwork to the U.S., it is normal to wonder whether you need a courier (and whether the price is worth it). Here is a practical way to decide.

When a courier can be worth it
A courier may be the right choice if you need:
- Time-definite delivery for a hard deadline.
- Signature confirmation or special handling.
- International delivery (outside the U.S.) with detailed tracking.
Courier offerings and pricing vary widely - check the provider's current options before you commit.
When USPS is usually enough
First Class mail is often fine when:
- You're sending a personal letter or non-urgent paperwork.
- You do not need in-person service or special handling.
- Your main goal is convenience and avoiding a trip to a post office.
A simple decision rule
- Need time-definite delivery or international service? Consider a courier.
- Need tracking or proof of delivery? USPS Certified Mail can help.
- Need to mail a letter or form to a U.S. address without a printer? Upload a PDF and mail it via USPS.
How to mail to a U.S. address without a courier
- Create a PDF - Export your document or scan signed pages.
- Upload and add addresses - Enter the U.S. recipient address (and a return address).
- Choose delivery speed - First Class or Express, plus Certified Mail (First Class only) when needed.
- Checkout - We print and mail it for you.
Important note
PostalForm offers USPS First Class and Express options. Certified Mail (First Class only) adds USPS tracking with optional electronic return receipt. If your recipient requires special handling or in-person service, follow their instructions.
