Rent increase notice compliance checklist
PostalForm does not currently offer a generated or orderable rent increase notice. The required form, permitted increase, notice period, and delivery method can depend on state and local law, the tenancy, the property, the size and timing of earlier increases, and any rent-control or housing-program rules.

Why there is no universal template
A rent increase is not only a change from one dollar amount to another. Before a notice can do what it is intended to do, the landlord may need to establish that the increase is permitted, use prescribed language or a government form, give a particular amount of advance notice, time the effective date to a rental period, and deliver the notice by an authorized method.
Those requirements are not interchangeable across jurisdictions. A mailing record can document a mailpiece, but it cannot make an otherwise impermissible increase valid or replace another required delivery step.
What to verify before preparing a notice
- The property address, including the city, county, and state
- Whether the tenancy is fixed-term, month-to-month, subsidized, or otherwise regulated
- The current rent, proposed rent, and effective date
- The total amount or percentage of all increases during the period the law measures
- Whether a rent cap, rent-control ordinance, housing program, lease term, or exemption applies
- Whether the landlord must state an exemption, reason, calculation, or other prescribed information
- Whether an official form or exact statutory language is required
- The notice period and how it is calculated
- Whether the effective date must align with a rental period or lease renewal
- Who must receive the notice and which delivery methods are authorized
- Whether mailing adds time or must accompany personal delivery, posting, or another act
Use current primary sources
Check the current statute, the official state housing or court guidance, any city or county housing rules, the lease, and applicable housing-program documents. If the property is rent controlled, subsidized, subject to an affordability covenant, or part of a contested tenancy, use a qualified local professional before acting.
What a mailing record can show
USPS tracking or proof of mailing can help document when a particular mailpiece entered the mailstream and its delivery events. It does not establish that the increase was allowed, that the notice contained every required term, that the effective date was correct, or that mailing alone satisfied the governing delivery rule.
