How many pages can you mail with one stamp?
One USPS First-Class Mail Forever stamp covers a standard 1-ounce domestic letter — about 4 sheets of regular 8.5 x 11 inch paper in a rectangular business envelope, by the Postal Service's own rule of thumb. USPS postage for heavier letters
USPS prices standard rectangular domestic letters by the ounce, up to 3.5 ounces. Under Notice 123 effective July 12, 2026:

A square, rigid, lumpy, vertical, clasped, string-tied, or button-closed envelope counts as nonmachinable — sorting machines cannot handle it — and USPS lists a $0.49 surcharge. An envelope too large or too thick for letter pricing is priced as a flat or package instead.
Why page count alone can be wrong
Page count is a shortcut. What USPS actually prices is the finished mailpiece, envelope and all.
