# Print a completed tax return online for hand signature

Have a prepared tax-return PDF but no convenient printer? PostalForm can print it and mail a print-and-sign kit to the taxpayer or authorized signer. The signer then reviews the paper copy, signs it by hand, adds any required physical enclosures, verifies the current IRS address, and personally mails the final packet.

## How it works
1. **Upload the prepared return — Add the main paper-filing PDF and any printable supporting documents in the order they should appear.** -
2. **Name the signer — Enter the taxpayer or authorized signer who should receive the physical kit.** -
3. **Enter the signer’s delivery address — This is where PostalForm sends the printed pages; it must not be an IRS filing address.** -
4. **Review the preview — Check content, page order, orientation, and readability before ordering.** -
5. **Receive and finish the packet — The signer reviews, hand-signs, dates, and adds any physical enclosures.** -
6. **Verify and personally mail — The signer confirms the current IRS address and performs the final mailing.** -

## Fast answer
You can start the printing step online, but PostalForm does not directly file a paper tax return for you. Upload the prepared paper-filing PDF, choose a delivery address for the taxpayer or authorized signer, and review the print kit. PostalForm prints the pages and mails them to that signer—not to the IRS.

[Create my print-and-sign kit](cta:/forms/tax-return-print-and-sign-kits)

After delivery, the signer must complete the filing: review the physical pages, add original handwritten signatures wherever required, include checks or other physical items when the official instructions call for them, confirm the current IRS destination, and place the final packet in the mail.

## Why the return comes back to the signer
The print-and-sign step protects an important distinction: a signature reproduced when a PDF is printed should not be assumed to be an original signature on a paper return. IRS processing guidance says paper returns require original signatures and specifically warns against accepting photocopied signatures as valid originals. The guidance also limits when scanned or faxed signatures can be accepted.

- [IRS IRM 3.14.1: signature review procedures](https://www.irs.gov/irm/part3/irm_03-014-001r)
- [IRS IRM 3.12.2: individual paper-return signature requirements](https://www.irs.gov/irm/part3/irm_03-012-002r)

Because PostalForm prints the PDF remotely, the service deliberately stops before filing. The physical packet goes to the taxpayer or authorized signer so the required person can sign the printed return and control the final submission.

## What the print-and-sign kit includes
The workflow is designed for a return that has already been prepared for paper filing. The kit can contain:

- The primary tax-return PDF.
- Printable schedules, statements, and supporting forms uploaded with it.
- The pages in the order shown in the PostalForm preview.
- A physical copy delivered to the signer address entered during the workflow.

PostalForm does not determine which forms belong in the filing, revise the return, add a signature, choose an IRS address, or insert physical objects after printing.

## Before you upload
Prepare a clean paper-filing copy rather than a tax-software archive containing every client, preparer, and filing copy.

1. Confirm the correct return, tax year, and revision.
2. Include the schedules, statements, and printable attachments required by the official instructions.
3. Leave every required handwritten-signature area available for the taxpayer or authorized signer.
4. Remove worksheets, drafting notes, duplicates, and pages that should remain private.
5. Decide where the signer can reliably receive the print kit.
6. Save a separate copy of the prepared PDF for your records.

PostalForm does not review the packet for tax completeness. Use your tax software, return preparer, or another qualified professional if you are unsure what belongs in it.

## After the kit arrives
The delivered kit is not yet a filed return. Before personally mailing it to the IRS, the taxpayer or authorized signer should:

- Compare the physical pages with the prepared return and check page order and legibility.
- Hand-sign and date every required signature area; joint returns may require both taxpayers to sign.
- Add any physical check, money order, original document, certified copy, or other enclosure required by the current instructions.
- Verify the IRS address for the exact form, tax year, taxpayer location, payment status, and special circumstances.
- Use the mailing method and deadline procedure appropriate for the filing.
- Keep a copy of the signed return and whatever mailing record the signer chooses to obtain.

An IRS notice may provide a destination that differs from a general “where to file” table. Follow the notice and current official instructions rather than an address remembered from a prior year.

## Which returns fit this workflow?
The print-and-sign kit can be useful when a return is already prepared as a paper-filing PDF and the signer needs a physical copy delivered for final assembly.

| Return or packet | What the signer still must verify and do |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Form 1040 or 1040-SR | Sign the paper return, add required enclosures, confirm the destination, and mail it |
| Form 1040-NR | Review international filing instructions, sign the paper copy, assemble originals, and mail |
| Form 1065 | Confirm paper filing is permitted, obtain an authorized signature, assemble, and mail |
| Prior-year return | Use the correct prior-year forms and current filing directions before signing and mailing |
| Other business return | Confirm signature, electronic-filing, enclosure, and destination rules before using paper mail |

This workflow is not appropriate when the return still needs preparation, the filing must be electronic, or the signer cannot complete and personally mail the final paper packet.

## FAQs
- **Can PostalForm mail my completed return straight to the IRS?** No. The tax-return workflow sends a print kit only to the taxpayer or authorized signer. It never sends that return directly to the IRS.
- **Why can’t I upload a PDF with a scanned signature and have it mailed?** A printed reproduction should not be assumed to satisfy an original-signature requirement. The signer receives the physical pages and signs them by hand before filing.
- **Does PostalForm e-file the return?** No. PostalForm provides printing and delivery of the kit; it does not transmit tax data through IRS e-file.
- **Can PostalForm prepare or check my taxes?** No. The return must already be prepared. Questions about filing eligibility or packet contents belong with the official instructions or a qualified tax professional.
- **Where does PostalForm send the kit?** To the taxpayer or authorized signer at the delivery address entered in the workflow—not to the IRS.
- **Can PostalForm put a check or original document in the final envelope?** No. The signer adds all physical enclosures after receiving the kit.
- **Who chooses the IRS address and mailing method?** The signer does, using current official instructions immediately before the final mailing.
- **Is the PostalForm delivery record proof that the return was filed?** No. It records delivery of the print kit to the signer, not mailing to or acceptance by the IRS.
