# SSA-2458: Report of Confidential Social Security Benefit Information

SSA-2458 is an internal Social Security form used to report confidential benefit information. SSA's operating instructions describe it as a paper method for manually producing benefit and payment information when an automated benefit-verification response is not used. It is not a public application that a beneficiary fills out and mails.

## Quick answer
If you need proof of Social Security or Supplemental Security Income, request a **benefit verification letter** through your personal _my Social Security_ account or contact SSA. Do not download a third-party file labeled SSA-2458 and send it as though it were a benefit application.

## What SSA-2458 is for
SSA's Program Operations Manual refers to the paper SSA-2458 when staff manually respond to benefit or payment questions or generate a benefit-verification response. The form can contain confidential information, so it belongs inside the SSA verification process rather than a general form-to-mail workflow.

The public SSA forms catalog does not list SSA-2458 as a downloadable beneficiary form. That is consistent with its role as an agency-produced report.

## How to get proof of benefits
SSA says the fastest official route is a personal _my Social Security_ account:

1. Sign in to or create your account on SSA.gov.
2. Open the benefit-verification or replacement-documents area.
3. Customize the available letter for your needs.
4. Save or print the official letter.

If you cannot use the online account, contact SSA for help obtaining the appropriate verification. A housing agency, lender, benefits office, or other requester may also specify how recent the letter must be and which details it needs.

## SSA-2458 vs. a benefit verification letter
| Document | Who produces it | What the public should do |
| --------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| SSA-2458 | SSA staff as part of a manual benefit-information process | Ask SSA for official verification; do not self-prepare the form |
| Benefit verification letter | Generated through SSA's official account or assistance process | Download, save, or print the official letter |
| SSA-7008 | A public request to correct an earnings record | Use the current official SSA-7008 instructions when an earnings record is wrong |

A benefit verification letter proves the information SSA currently has. SSA-7008 serves a different purpose: asking SSA to correct an earnings record.

## Can PostalForm prepare SSA-2458?
No. PostalForm does not reproduce, populate, or submit SSA-2458. The form is an SSA-generated confidential report, not a customer filing.

PostalForm supports selected public Social Security forms and customer-assembly workflows. Use those only when the public form and PostalForm workflow match the task you need to complete.

## FAQs
- **Can I download SSA-2458?** SSA does not list it in the public forms catalog. Use SSA's official benefit-verification process instead of a third-party copy.
- **Is SSA-2458 an application for benefits?** No. It reports benefit information; it is not an application for Social Security or SSI.
- **What should I use for proof of Social Security income?** Use an official benefit verification letter from your personal my Social Security account or contact SSA.
- **Can I mail SSA-2458 to a landlord or lender?** Ask the requester whether an official benefit verification letter meets its requirements. Do not create your own SSA-2458.
