# How to edit a PDF without Adobe Acrobat

Most PDF edits are small: a misspelled name on a lease, last year's date on a form, a missing signature, one wrong amount. Paying for an Acrobat subscription to make a thirty-second fix — or installing a trial that watermarks your file — is the wrong size of tool for the job.

## What you can do without Acrobat
- **Add text anywhere** — click a spot and type, choosing size, color, and a standard print font.

## When you'd still want Acrobat
An honest tool page should say so: if you need OCR to make scanned pages searchable, formal redaction workflows, or to author fillable form fields, Adobe's suite (or a desktop equivalent) is still the right purchase. Scanned pages are pictures of text, so no browser tool can retype them in place — though you can still sign, stamp, and add text on top of a scan here.
