# How to dispute a credit report error by mail

PostalForm's paid credit-dispute preparation and mailing workflow is not accepting new orders while its federal and state credit-services compliance is reviewed. Use the current instructions and forms published by the bureau or furnisher instead.

## Fast answer
Federal law gives consumers ways to dispute inaccurate credit-report information, but bureau disputes and direct disputes to furnishers have different rules. Use the recipient's current official dispute address, explain each item separately, and send only the identity and supporting documents that recipient actually requests.

## Who this is for
Consumers reviewing current official instructions before submitting their own dispute.

## Why the guided PostalForm workflow is paused
Paid services offered for the purpose of improving a consumer's credit record can raise requirements under the federal Credit Repair Organizations Act and state credit-services laws. Direct furnisher disputes also have exclusions and may be declined when prepared or submitted by a credit-repair organization. PostalForm is not taking new paid dispute orders until the product and business model have been reviewed and rebuilt accordingly.

## What PostalForm does not do
PostalForm does not currently prepare, route, or mail credit-report dispute packets and does not decide whether an item should be removed or guarantee an outcome.

## What you need before starting
- The credit report item details.
- A current report showing each disputed item.
- A separate factual explanation and requested correction for each item.
- Only the identity, address, and supporting records required by that recipient's official instructions.
- The recipient's current official dispute address.

## Recommended mailing option
Follow the recipient's current instructions. If you choose a tracked mailing service, remember that tracking documents carrier events; it does not establish that the dispute was complete, legally sufficient, or resolved.

## Proof / tracking explanation
Keep a copy of exactly what you sent and any carrier receipt or delivery record, then preserve every response from the bureau or furnisher.

## Step-by-step flow
1. Get and review your current credit reports.
2. Identify each inaccurate or incomplete item separately.
3. Read the current official instructions for the bureau or furnisher.
4. Prepare the dispute and recipient-specific supporting documents yourself or with qualified counsel.
5. Keep a complete copy and proof of submission.

## FAQs
- **Can PostalForm prepare or mail my dispute?** Not currently. New paid credit-dispute orders are paused for compliance review.
- **Should every recipient get the same attachments?** No. Follow each recipient's official instructions and avoid sending sensitive identity records more broadly than necessary.
- **Is a furnisher dispute the same as a bureau dispute?** No. Regulation V has specific scope, address, and eligibility rules for direct disputes to furnishers.
