# PostalForm vs LetterStream

Choose PostalForm when you want to mail one letter without creating an account: write in the browser or upload a PDF, check the address and preview, and pay. Guided forms and agent tools are available for documents that need more preparation. This PostalForm-authored comparison uses official LetterStream sources checked October 15, 2026.

## Is PostalForm or LetterStream better for one letter?
PostalForm is a strong choice for one letter when you want to skip account creation and keep writing, address assistance, PDF review, and payment in one flow. LetterStream also accepts single letters through a free account and may offer a lower quote for some Certified Mail configurations.

## What PostalForm adds to a single-letter checkout
| Requirement | PostalForm | LetterStream |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| Single-letter entry | No account required for ordinary browser checkout | Free account used to build the mailing |
| Minimum quantity | One letter supported | No minimum quantity advertised |
| Document preparation | PDF upload, browser letter editor, guided forms | PDF upload and mailing setup |
| Preview and history | Printable PDF before payment; order status after checkout | Account-based document proof, history and tracking |
| Address assistance | Loqate-backed lookup and selected-address verification | Review address requirements in LetterStream's mailing setup |
| Certified and receipt | Certified Mail; optional Electronic Return Receipt where eligible | Certified Mail with and without Electronic Return Receipt |
| Automation | [API and remote MCP](/developers) | API documented by LetterStream |

LetterStream's [business mailing page](https://www.letterstream.com/business/) documents PDF upload, no minimums, account history and API integration. Its [pricing overview](https://help.letterstream.com/article/186-where-is-your-price-list) describes the free-account quoting path and receipt options. Both services offer document review; the table compares available workflows, not rendering quality.

## Price comparison
PostalForm starts at **$3.40 for USPS First-Class Mail**, **$11.40 with Certified Mail**, or **$14.40 with Certified Mail and Electronic Return Receipt** for a one-page black-and-white U.S. document plus the inserted address page. These starting configurations include printing and mailing; document, destination, options, and fulfillment route determine the final quote.

LetterStream's pricing overview lists a one-sheet, black-ink, single-sided Certified letter from $8.63, or $11.54 with Electronic Return Receipt, including production and postage. These are advertised starting configurations checked October 15, 2026, not a saved quote for your document. Additional sheets, envelope choices, and other options can change the price.

PostalForm's [full-disclosure pricing matrix](/pricing) shows its base charge, printed pages including address-sheet behavior, and proof add-ons. Match the same content pages, printing sides, receipt and destination before comparing totals. PostalForm's account-free checkout and guided document preparation are the reasons to choose it when the lowest postage-and-production quote is not your only requirement.

## PostalForm's three tasks before mailing
| Task | PDF upload | Browser letter |
| ---------- | --------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| 1. Prepare | Upload and inspect the PDF | Write and inspect the generated PDF |
| 2. Address | Add addresses and choose print/mail options | Add addresses and choose print/mail options |
| 3. Approve | Review the document and exact quote, then pay | Review the document and exact quote, then pay |

These are three task groups, not a timed test. You can start directly with one PDF; PostalForm's forms, batches, and API do not require extra setup for that letter.

## Choose by requirement
| Use PostalForm when | Consider LetterStream when |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| You want a single-letter checkout without registering | You want an account holding mailing history and team workflows |
| You want to write a letter or complete a supported guided form | Your document is ready and its quote or print configuration fits better |
| You want a supported agent to prepare a reviewable mailing draft | You already integrate with LetterStream's API |

For either service, compare Certified alone against Certified alone, and Certified plus receipt against the same receipt option. A faster production claim is not a delivery guarantee. See the [delivery and proof matrix](/compare) for the evidence each PostalForm service provides.

## Which mailing option and proof should you choose?
PostalForm offers U.S. letter mailing with different delivery and proof options. First-Class suits routine correspondence; Certified Mail adds mailing and delivery records, and Electronic Return Receipt adds a downloadable signature record. Expedited delivery prioritizes speed. Review the destination, estimated dates, total price, and required proof before paying.

| Mailing option | Delivery speed | Proof | Use when | Avoid when |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| USPS First-Class Mail | First-Class Mail delivery estimate shown before payment. | Available processing scans; no recipient signature or Certified Mail receipt. | Routine letters when a signed delivery record is unnecessary. | Your instructions require Certified Mail, a signature, or a deadline this estimate cannot meet. |
| Certified Mail | First-Class delivery speed; certification does not make delivery faster. | USPS mailing and delivery/attempt tracking; no Electronic Return Receipt unless added. | You need a recorded mailing and delivery or attempted-delivery status. | You need a downloadable signature record or faster delivery. |
| Certified Mail + Electronic Return Receipt | First-Class delivery speed; signature collection may require redelivery or pickup. | Certified Mail records plus a downloadable USPS signature record when available. | Your instructions call for Certified Mail with Return Receipt or you need the signature record. | Your recipient requires an original enclosure, personal service, or another submission method. |
| Expedited / Express with signature | Faster estimated delivery range shown at checkout; production cutoff and destination apply. | Carrier tracking and signature option; this is separate from Certified Mail and ERR. | Speed and signature matter and checkout offers the service for your destination. | A rule specifically requires Certified Mail or the displayed estimate misses your deadline. |

Availability and delivery estimates depend on the document and destination. Mailing proof does not establish that a recipient accepted a filing or that legal service requirements were met. [Review delivery estimates](/delivery-times) and [full pricing](/pricing).
